2021.11.27 18:21 shadowmonkey105 Social places around campus
Freshman btw, only just think to ask this because of recent talk and stuff, but are there really any places around campus that act as a social hub? I've seen the defunct web pages for Gompei's Gutters and it just seems like the school never really put anything in place that could replace that. Just my view on things as I can only really think of campus center which is mainly just 3 billiards tables, food court sitting, and the octagon which I've only seen people study in. I just want to know if I'm somehow missing something or if the billiards tables really are the only "drop-in and come relax with other students for an hour" spot on campus

2021.11.27 18:21 LennartGimm My partner and I are plant killing experts - help :(
Hello lovely garden-wizards :) My partner and I have been living together for about a year now. And it seems that keeping plants alive is something neither of us is even remotely good at. And I'd love some tips to maybe save our current set of dying plants and impress my girlfriend, because let me tell you, we are the anti-nursery for anything green. I apologise for this wall of text, I don't know what is important and what isn't, so I wanted to include everything.
------------------------- Summary -------------------------
We bought 5 ivy plants of different types. Left them in their original pots and watered them about every 3-5 days most of the time. They were in 4 different rooms with different lighting conditions but all started drying out. Three seem to be dead now, two are still holding on. And I have no idea what to do with them. I suspect that the air in this flat is just too dry/hot maybe and with too little air flow?
------------------------- Context -------------------------
At first we got a flower from a friend, already potted and everything. We put the pot into a little bowl to catch the excess water and drain it. That flower lasted maybe a month until it just shriveled up and died. I don't remember what kind of flower, sorry.
Then in spring we tried our hands at seeds. We planted several herbs (mint, parsley, basil, chives) in large individual pots like these. Two didn't even sprout, one had the earth molding and the last one dried up as well. In these pots, because they had no drainage holes, we padded them with large rocks and some cloth on top below the soil to make a small reservoir for the excess water.
But we tried again. I thought ivy was pretty much indistructible. We bought 5 ivy plants (different kinds) from our local gardening center. Complete with cachepots/planters. Again, we put the actual plastic pot on rocks so the roots wouldn't just sit in the excess water. And you guessed it, they are in the process of dying right now. And that's what I would love some help with: Can they be still saved, and what are we doing wrong?
------------------------- The plants -------------------------
So first off, here are the dead patients and these still have a fighting chance I hope. The dead ones are currently stowed away because we had guests and this wasn't particularly great decoration. We've had them for about 2 months now, and at first they were doing well. They were in separate rooms (1 kitchen, 1 home office, 2 living room, 1 hallway).
The kitchen is fairly bright with two north-facing windows, the ivy standing about 2m away from those around head height on top of the microwave which in turn sits on top of the fridge. No direct sunlight, but not full shade either. We never darken these windows. The home office one has it a bit darker, a smaller, often darkened, south facing window. The plant sat on top of a cabinet higher than the windows or my head. No direct sunlight either and in general darker than the kitchen-ivy with the occasional bright minutes. The two in the living room were inbetween these extremes. The room has an east-facing window that we never darken. Both plants sat about 3m from the window, one around head height, the other around hip height on opposing walls (the window on a third wall). Again no direct sunlight but bright light in the morning and then not that much during the evenings. The hallway plant sits on a shelf at head height. The hallway doesn't have a window but the doors to the living room and bathroom (north facing window) are open most of the time and it gets about as much light as the home office plant. We don't artificially light the plants, just the usual ceiling light when we're in the room.
We watered these plants every 2-3 days at first, around 100-150ml each (3.5-5.3 fluid ounces if that's what you use?). Then it started that the soil was still moist and we read that we only had to water when the soil is dry on top. We did that for a bit to not cause root rot. But fairly quickly we noticed that the soil was moist for sometimes up to a week. We didn't really know if we should water them in that case and reverted to checking for dry soil but watering at least every 5 days. We put some liquid fertiliser for leafy plants into the water every 2-3 weeks. Not much but just a little bit to help them along. Now the soild dries out very quickly but there's a lot of excess left in the planter pot. I watered them 2 days ago and its dry as a bone but theres' water at the bottom.
And to wrap up the questions from the stickied post about asking for help: The airflow in our flat is weird. For some reason, the radiators aren't below the windows, so we often have a strong temperature gradient in these rooms, the floor being 2-3°C (around 5°F) below the temps at the ceiling. This also means we don't have great airflow. We ventilate every day but only for a few minutes at a time. There have been no new plants in the flat while they were here. We don't have a balcony, so these plants have not been outside. We are using the soil they came in and the pots they came in. Without a balcony repotting would've been somewhat difficult. So I guess the roots don't have much room to grow, some where already sticking out the bottom when we got them. The temperatures can vary quite a bit due to old radiators. It can go down to 18°C (64F) at night right now and when we are heating the radiators go up to 55°C (130F) heating the ariflow going up accordingly. We try not to heat warmer than 23°C. These temps are estimates as we don't have thermometers around, only and infrared one for cooking, and I sometimes check the radiators and other surfaces in the flat with it.
------------------------- The Symptoms-------------------------
So they were doing fine for about the first month. And then temperatures dropped and we had to start heating our flat. After this, we noticed one dried vine on the home office plant. That particular vine was hanging off the cabinet over the radiator, so we moved it a bit to keep the vines away from there. The same happened to one of the plants in the living room, again over the radiator, again being moved away. Then the plant in the hallway had its leaves dry out, one vine at a time and radially outwards. But the hallway doesn't have a radiator (it does have the pipe supplying all the radiators with hot water, but that runs along the ceiling so there was some distance). Then the kitchen plant had its back-leaves dry out (the ones facing the wall and back of the fridge). I thought maybe the fridge produced a hot stream of air but I couldn't feel a difference and the thermometer didn't show higher temperatures either along that part of the wall. Lastly, the second living room plant has been showing signs of drying out. Since then, the second living room plant, the hallway plant and the office plant are dry as a bone. The first living room plant has only had that one vine dry out and the kitchen plant has one seemingly healthy vine left. We haven't cut any of the dead(?) vines off, we just left the plants as they are now.
We also noticed that the plants didn't retain much water anymore. We gave them about the same amount as before but the outer pot filled rapidly. The outer pot was still holding water the next day but the surface was dry again. So we opted to water about every 4-7 days.
I hope you can tell me that we did something fundamentally wrong and that plants don't just hate us. Because I love the images on this sub and am so jealous of all your beautiful green oases. In any case, thanks for reading my tale of misery :D

2021.11.27 18:21 henlowhatishappening The new sasural genda phool promo is breaking all characters
Okay so everyone in the family is getting ishaan to remarry, just the way they did in season 1. am sorry this is so out of character. i have never seen that family rush people into relationships nor have seen them force people to get over trauma.
Radha and Shailja both had traumatic pasts. not once did i hear anyone force them to look for relationships. The family even accepted radha's behaviour towards deepak because they understood her resoning even if they didn't agree with it.
also the whole entire family was attached to suhana, some even loved her more than ishaan so this is making zero sense. i also hate seeing shagun with jay not just because of the age gap but also because this show is basically ruining my ship.
anyways i see a lot of people are rewatching season 1. we could have a thread about it to discuss all the plots. i absolutely love this show and have so much to talk on it.
